Wyoming fly fishing continues its relentless high standard on Grey Reef and Miracle Mile. The streamer fishing has been very good and the nymphing is great. The North Platte River has been quiet as far as anglers so this is a great time to be on the river. Fremont Canyon is also giving up great memories but not at quite the pace of the big brothers. Alcova and Casper ,Wyoming has been typical wind in the high pressures and calm and cooler in the low. Today we are expecting a high near 40 but the wind forecast is less than 10mph. Grey Reef Nymphers should focus on small scuds and leeches if you like a meatier point fly or just stick with a pair of midges on light tippet. Tailouts and soft edges are where they hang out mostly but the faster water and drops with get crowded during a big midge hatch. Grey Reef streamer anglers would benefit from a slower level retrieve. Simple patterns and even a tandem rig with small leeches or even a scud or crawdad trailer would be a good bet. Miracle Mile nymphers could opt for a san juan worm or beedy leech as a point fly and a midge dropper. Big tailouts are fishing great. Swinging a Platte River Spider or even a Special in the slower water or a Goldie or Bergin Bugger in faster runs has been great. Don’t be disappointed if you swing up Walleye! Tasty fish tacos right there.
We are gearing up for another shoulder season of improvements. Our cottages will already be getting some alterations to preform even better. The RV area will also be getting some love. The facilities already have received a new paint job this fall and should have new decks at the lodge by spring. It is a lot of work but we wouldn’t trade it.
