Central Wyoming Fly Fishing is very good except for the past couple days of nuclear force wind. Grey Reef enjoyed amazing weather conditions all last week with calm and warm weather, clear water and hungry trout. Friday it kicked in with a fury and should be over it tomorrow. Fishing is excellent with standard winter nymph rigs at Miracle Mile, Fremont Canyon and Grey Reef. Streamers have been stellar one day and mediocre the next. It seems lately that the nicer the weather the more cautious they are with regard to big swimmy bugs.
With less than great ski conditions along the front range a quick Grey Reef assault could brighten your recreating blues. The Reef Fly Shop, Cottages & RV has excellent winter rates and the perfect location. You can get a cheaper trip or room but our rates are the best value any time of year. Budget built lodging, no private access, short days or inexperienced guides…not how we roll.
Casper and Central Wyoming has some great family activities that would allow the whole crew to come and enjoy. We have a small alpine ski resort just 20 minutes from downtown and we have an amazing Nordic Ski Center just 20 minutes from downtown. Snowmobile trails and groomed fat bike and snowshoe trails. The Cold Avenger Winter Triathlon will be help Feb 7th and the Casper Nordic Center. The 3 events will be snowshoe run, skate or classic ski and fat bike leg. Do all 3, pick the events you want or get a team and split the duties. Casper’s latest kid feature is Jump Craze, a super fun trampoline venue. Science Zone is a kid favorite as is the Tate Geological Museum….uhhmm….dinosaurs rule! Plus there is a full Colombian Mammoth standing guard. The 5 Trails Center describes pioneer and speculator life and the conflict with indigenous peoples. The kids will not be disappointed and the fishing will deliver anytime!
