Grey Reef April Fishing Report

What a week of weird weather! In Alcova we had 18 plus inches of snow on Wednesday morning and highs in the upper 50’s expected for Sunday. So far the river is still in good shape, if this snow melts quickly though that could make the river nasty and off color. We will update our report if this happens. Another reminder, don’t forget about the Cable closure, the river from the first cable below the boat ramp down, about 600 yards, to the second cable will be closed to fishing April 1st-30th.

Miracle Mile- As of today the road to the Mile has not been plowed. We would not advise trying to get out there. However, when the road is in good condition again the fishing has been good out there, With some really nice fish being caught. Leeches, scuds, reef worms, and midges all catching fish.

Fremont/Cardwell- Fishing has been excellent. The water is as clear as it gets and the flows are still at 75 CFS and should remain that way for awhile. Small bugs have been our top producers. Fishing a Deep Purple or Reef Worm #16 followed up with a zebra midge, RS2, or mayhem midge has been a solid rig. Make sure to be mindful of the Redds up there, there’s plenty of feeding fish, no need to target spawning fish.

Grey Reef- Casper – The water is looking good now, but as the snow melts we will see some of the creeks running and dumping in dirty water. The fishing has been amazing these past few weeks. Reef Worms or the Deep Purple have been our best flies followed closely by various midge patterns. A Grey Rs2, BlackĀ  Mayhem Midge, or black Tail Water Tiny have all been picking up good numbers of fish. Again, watch out for and be mindful of spawning fish.

The spring is shaping up to be great one! If you have any questions or would like to book a trip just stop in the shop or give us a call!
