Grey Reef Fishing Report

We have been having some typical Wyoming springtime weather recently, from weather in the 70’s to rain and snow. The wet snow after the rain has caused many of the creeks in the area to blow out resulting in some muddy water on the Reef. As of this morning the water below the dam is fishable and should be good until Ledge creek about half way down to Lusby. The fishing has been incredible these past few weeks with fish really keying in on the Baetis hatch. On the Reef a shorter “buggier” rig has been our go-to. Our best flies have been a RS2 in Grey or Chocolate, Epoxyback Baetis, and a bead head CDC Pheasant Tail. Once you run into the dirtier water a hot head leech or UV leech is a good option too. We have heard rumors that the flows could increase by the end of the month, we will keep you posted if this happens. This would not be a bad thing, it would clear up the river and open up more fishing possibilities.

Fremont/Cardwell although busy, has been fishing excellent. Same bugs as the Reef just on lighter rigs. Keep an eye out for risers, on the right days we have been running into some fun dry fly fishing. Who wouldn’t want a 20″ fish on a dry??? The water conditions are excellent, the flow is still at 75 CFS and the water is CLEAR!

Miracle Mile is still running at 2.200 CFS with good looking water, the fishing has been great some days! Higher water actually opens up some fishing opportunities and pushes a lot of the fish closer to the banks and out of the faster water. The road is fine as of yesterday and should stay okay unless we get another major weather event.

As always if you have any questions stop by or call the shop!

UPDATE: We had a lightning incident that shorted out our phone and credit card machine. We are back up and running now. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
