We are now 10-days past the end of the flush and entering the heart of spring fishing on Grey Reef. Flows on Grey Reef are currently sitting at 500cfs and with good snowpack in the upper drainage, we are looking forward to a great year. As you would expect the spawn is in full swing. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be considerate of the spawning fish. We encourage you not to fish to spawners and absolutely DO NOT wade in or around the redds. There are plenty of fish actively feeding in the runs.
It is officially bug season on Grey Reef. Daily midge and baetis hatches are providing us with some exciting fishing. A couple of emergers(i.e. PAL, GS emerger, all-day may) on a light nymph rig has been the rig during the hatch. Otherwise, the standard “reef worm”/pine squirrel leech combo has been the go-to program earlier in the day before the bugs start popping.
Water conditions continue to be hit or miss below the bridge with the current wet weather pattern and low elevation runoff. Please don’t hesitate to stop in or call for the most current conditions.
