Grey Reef Post Flush Fishing Report

The flush is over and the fishing is great! The river is in great condition after this years flush, the water all the way to Casper is CLEAR and the weeds are cleared out. The main purpose of the flush is to clean out the sediment from the gravel beds to produce some nice spawning habitat. Now that the flush is over the rainbows will start making redds, it is important to let these fish spawn without harassment from anglers. So make sure to watch where you are walking and not to target the fish on redds.

Miracle Mile-550 CFS- Fishing at The Mile has been good lately with great fish being caught daily. The water temp is still fairly chilly so the streamer bite has not been on fire. You can still get them them to eat a streamer just slow down your retrieve. Olive and white seem to be the best colors lately, The Reef’s Goldie or an Olive Burgin Bugger have been our top streamers. Nymphing, as usual, is producing most of the fish. Brown UV leeches, Red or purple Reef Worms, Scuds, and midges are great go-to’s. For midges we like GS Mayhem Midge in black or purple, Reef’s PAL, Flashbang Midge, or a black All Day May in size 20.

Fremont/Cardwell-75 CFS- Although it has been getting a lot of pressure, Fremont has still been fishing great! Nymphing with small flies, PAL, Zebra Midge, or UV Emerger, has been catching a bunch of fish. For length, anywhere from 3-6 ft indicator to weight will work depending on which run you are fishing. If you go awhile without catching any fish it’s always a good idea to change your depth and weight before changing your flies, even moving the indicator 6″-12″ can make a huge difference.

Grey Reef-Casper-500 CFS- Fishing has been amazing! We have had good midge hatches everyday and the fish are keying in. Nymphing a Reef Worm or a Deep Purple followed up by a RS2 or a PAL will be good. Leeches and scuds are also a great point fly option. The water is as clear as it gets, it is still cold though. After the flush the water temp was around 37 degrees. As the temp increases we will start seeing our spring baetis hatch, can’t wait! Streamer fishing has been fair to really good on some days, the Goldie being the best streamer.
