Grey Reef Winter Blip

Pretty nasty today as we expected. Most of our trips opted out but a couple held strong to brave tough weather but likely excellent fishing. Fishing is still excellent and the water conditions on the true Grey Reef section are good. Bolton Creek is charging and Bates Creek is a little scary with the volume of water it is packing. Don’t expect great conditions down low for a while. Midges are bouncing throughout the water column and some baetis are making their way into the atmosphere. Baetis hatch will only get  stronger and the fishing will be amazing on short light emerger rigs. Ask your guide to fish the hatch and get rid of eggs and worms. This is an eye opening experience and one that shouldn’t be missed!

Another reminder about confusion between lodging and outfitters servicing Grey Reef. Make sure you know who you are booking with. North Platte Lodge and The Reef Fly Shop (Grey Reef Outfitters) are the only operations on Grey Reef Rd, the access to the Grey Reef section.

Tomorrow should be a rapid melt and will be back in the 60s for Tuesday.

Glo Bugs, Reef Worms, Pine Squirrel Leeches, Mayhem Midges, Pulsating Emergers, Foam Wing RS2, PAL etc all doing famously. Slow retrieve on moderate streamers also getting attacked but not at a feverish pace.
