Big water is here and the fish are happy! Don’t let the high water scare you off, fishing is great on all three tailwaters right now!
Miracle Mile- 7,500 CFS- Fishing has been great and we will start seeing some golden stones here in the next few weeks. If you have a boat getting out to the islands and fishing all of the seams can be really fun this time of year. Otherwise, fish all of the slow water around the banks or the slower water on the edges of the big runs. Leeches, San juans, annelids, Pat’s Rubber Legs, or scud patterns are all good flies right now. Be very careful wading out there right now, at low water the wading is already not easy, so with increased flows you need to be extra careful.
Fremont Canyon/ Cardwell- 4,300 CFS- Fishing has been very good for the few that have fished it. The fish are all concentrated in the slow water out of the main current. A double San Juan rig has been killer. Make your rig a little heavier than you think, 2-3 BB’s running 5-7 ft indicator to weight has been our go-to set up.
Grey Reef- 7,000 CFS- will a lot of the banks flooded the fish are keying in on all of the earth worms getting washed into the river. We’re catching fish that are so full of earth worms and annelids that they are throwing them up in the boat! Nymphing the slow inside corners and banks has been on fire. A san juan in red or purple followed up by a red or purple annelid is a great rig right now. Leeches, hares ears, and prince nymphs are also working. We are seeing some big fish come to the net lately, there have been two fish over 25″ caught in the past three days!
Don’t let the high water stop you from coming up and fishing. As always if you have any questions or would like to book a trip stop by the shop or drop us a line!
