Big fish! Yes, big trout are being taken on the Grey Reef section even with the seasonal weed growth. Though you may have to work to find them in certain spots, when you do, expect some nice fish. Worms and leeches are still accounting for most of the trout, but small nymphs and crayfish patterns are getting it done too. Below Government Bridge has been fishing very well all week on the same patterns, but the clarity is still off a bit from the rain this week. This should clear by tomorrow. I fished the Mile Tuesday and did very well. Flows have dropped to just over 1000 cfs and the wading is relatively easy. Hot flies were the Reef’s Crawdizzle, big San Juan worms and a few fish eagerly took the Reef’s Goldie. Though the water looks muddy it really isn’t. Tannic water there is common and once in the water visibility is a couple of feet. Flows did drop at Fremont Canyon to 1300 cfs. I suspect there to be a lot of floating /suspended moss and low visibility until flows stabilize, but the fishing should be good if you can keep your flies clean.
