Flows have remained steady on all sections of the river and so has the fishing. Grey Reef has been producing some nice fish on both nymphs and streamers, but do not rule out the occasional Trico sipper on the calmer mornings. Expect to “spot hop” from run to run if you are floating with a good push between spots. You are looking for moving water now with the mature vegetation. The weeds aren’t an issue from the bridge down and this is where most are floating. Be ready to row if you are doing the Sechrist float. It’s quite a haul at 500 cfs. Fly selection is the same as the upper with leeches, scuds, worms, RS2 foam posts, crawdizzles, Hare’s ears, Goldies and Sparkle Minnows. If you are headed to the Mile expect crowds. With the various hunting seasons in camping and fishing spots are now hard to come by. The fishing has been good though and you can’t go wrong with a San Juan worm now. Fremont Canyon / Cardwell has really been giving up some good trout this week. Good top water action is possible on Trico spinners in the eddys both above and below the bridge. If you are nymphing a worm/RS2, worm/leech combo should get he job done.
