Fishing has been on fire these past few weeks, fish are really keying in on bugs! It is definitely feeling like spring here in central Wyoming, warm and sunny one day, rainy and cloudy the next. This is a good thing since baetis (BWO’s) love overcast drizzly weather! We have been seeing a lot of big healthy fish this year, TRFS and NPL supervisor Pat Ginder and his guest caught a 26″ brown yesterday!!! FISH ARE STILL SPAWNING PLEASE DON’T FISH TO SPAWNERS AND DO NOT WALK ON THE SPAWNING BEDS!
Fremont-75 CFS Fishing has been very good up there. You can sit in the larger deep runs and watch fish in the middle of the water column and crush bugs. BH CDC case BWO emerger, Foam post RS2, Pheasant tails, aero baetis, and PALs have all been working very well. Fremont is also your best chance to find some surface activity. A well placed Parachute adams or an olive comparadun in #18 will get the job done.
Miracle Mile- 2,700 CFS Fishing has been good up there as well even with the higher flows. The “buggy” stuff has been working well. BH pheasant tails and rs2’s have been our top producers, especially fishing the edges of the fast water. Be mindful of the road as we do have snow and rain in the forecast and that will surely muddy up the road.
Grey Reef- 500 CFS Fishing is fantastic right now, every fast run or big drop off are holding tons of fish. The river is finally looking better through Casper, fishing on the lower river has been really good too! BH Pheasant tails, Barr’s Emergers, RS2’s(olive, brown, grey), PAL, reef worms and Pine squirrel leeches are all great flies right now. We’re fishing fairly short and light right now 3-5′ indicator to weight with a No.1 or a bb as your weight.
