Wow, what a busy week. We have been busy all season but this week is loaded. Next week things slow down a little bit and the Bear Trap Summer Music Festival begins. Sam Bush is headlining this year! The hot air balloon roundup is this weekend and don’t miss Wednesday Nite Music at the Nic. It is free and they bring in great talent. All this coupled with great fishing…what else could you need?
Such a confusing amount of hatches going on. PMDs, Yellow Sallies, Tricos, Midges, Caddis add to that scuds, leaches, worms, baby fish, crawdads, hoppers, water boatmen etc and things can get a little crazy. Keep it simple by looking for riser on trico spinners in the AM, switch to yellow sally nymph with a PMD dropper for most of the day. When things get warm late in the day target faster riffles with caddis soft hackles OR cast hoppers to the banks. Yep! We are getting some good hopper activity already and hoping for this scene to improve. Nothing quite compares with big Grey Reef Trout eating hoppers. Streamers are producing and there are some good midday dry fly opportunities on PMDs and Sallies.
The Reef bathhouse is in full swing! Warm showers in individual shower rooms and private individual heads all for RV site guests. 50, 30 amd 20 Amp hookups satisfy the biggest coach down to the tent camper. The cottages are all booked this weekend but we have some availability throughout the month. Of course the North Platte Lodge can’t be overshadowed! Great food, amazing location and the best guide staff at reasonable rates.,
