It is going to be a big run off year in the Rocky Mountain Region. Wyoming fly fishing will be tough with high and muddy conditions on freestone streams. The upper North Platte River will experience this and will likely be well into July before things are clear. Grey Reef fly fishing , however, will not skip a beat. We are ultra insulated by 5 dams, in close succession, above the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River. We don’t experience “run off” in the traditional sense. Grey Reef fishing conditions remain excellent throughout the year.
The North Platte Lodge is the original fly fishing operation on the lower North Platte River and the only lodge at Grey Reef. The Reef Fly Shop is also the only shop at Grey Reef and the only shop to provide premium overnight Grey Reef lodging, RV sites, driftboat rentals and river shuttles. Combine that with the most private Grey Reef access, the most experienced full time Grey Reef and Miracle Mile guide staff, locations that can’t be matched and a dedication to making sure our guests leave with more than they expected. That is it in a nutshell. Do not be confused by names that are similar to ours. We are The Reef Fly Shop, North Platte Lodge and Grey Reef Outfitters.
The North Platte River below the true Grey Reef section of Grey Reef Dam to Government Bridge had a brief moment of clarity. A little squall got a touch of dirt going and the lowest reaches near Casper, Wyoming are again off color…but not for long. We are expecting increased flows anytime soon and are very excited for that.
