Fishing has been great and the crowds have been low, that’s why we love the winter months! Sunny weather this week leading up to some mild snowy conditions this weekend. Going out while the snow is falling can be extra rewarding. Typically good fishing, beautiful surroundings, and low fishing pressure can make for a great winter trip! Our shoulder season specials are in effect: $600 for 2 nights in a cottage and 1 full day guided trip for 2 anglers!

Grey Reef- 500 CFS- Fishing has still been good on the Platte’s most consistent tailwater fishery. Fish have really moved into winter feeding patterns, staying in the slower deeper runs. Standard Winter patterns that have all been working are: Reef Worm in red and purple #14-18, Pine Squirrel Leech in brown and natural #10, Scuds in olive, tan, and orange #14-18, BH Brassie #18-22, and flashbang midges in red, black, and tan #18-20. Focus on the inside corners, bottom 2/3 of the run, just any deeper, slower water. Depth and weight play a huge role, try adjusting your weight and indicator before changing flies. Streamers have also been working well, the Reef’s Goldie, Reef’s Rusty Trombone, and Galloup’s Peanut envy’s are our top patterns right now. Keep your retrieve slow for best results!

Miracle Mile- 500 CFS- Fishing has been good most days out there nymphing and throwing streamers. Nymphs include Pine Squirrel Leeches #10, San Juan Worms in pink, purple, and red  #10-12, Scuds in olive, amber, and tan, and Zebra midges in Black, olive, and cream #18-20. On the streamer side of things The Reef’s Goldie, kreelex, and sparkle minnow have been producing. Same thing as the Reef, keep te retrieve deep and slow.

Fremont Canyon/Cardwell Meadow- 75 CFS- Fishing has been great up there, mostly nymphing but definitely some dry fly action on the warmer calm days! Nymphs have been almost all midge flies: The Reef’s PAL, LAZY, BH brassie, Mayhem Midge, and flashbang midge have all been getting ’em. A well placed griffiths Gnat, or small parachute adams will work for those risers when they peek their head up.
