Grey Reef Fishing Report

Grey Reef fishing is really good and Grey Reef fishing is also a survival practice. The fish are on but the wind yesterday was powerful. We are expecting a couple more days of pushy atmosphere before another cold front calms the fishing conditions on the North Platte River. Streamers were the choice of battle yesterday and there was no issue finding willing players. It is quite a bit more mellow to start the day but suspect we will see another impressive display of water being ripped from the surface of the afterbay? Goldie on a slow retrieve…

Pic: cool old shot of the North Platte River flowing out of Fremont Canyon and into what is now Alcova Reservoir then passing through the canyon where Alcova Dam now resides. The canyon on the bottom of the picture is where the name of Alcova came from. There is a good sized hot spring (130*ish) that came out of the “alcoves” in the canyon wall. This area was originally going to be developed into a tourist destination with the medicinal hot springs being the featured attraction. The spring was tapped and diverted under the dam and now bubbles up between the hydro unit and spillway…it is still hot!
