Fall Fishing Might be the Best

Wyoming Fly Fishing in the fall might be the best there is? Will you touch the numbers of fish you might in the spring? Probably not. Will there be any shortage of fish in the fall? Absolutely not. What makes this time of year so great then? The light makes it great. There is no more impressive time of year for crazy shadows and glowing sunshine and incredibly comfortable weather. Dry fly fishing…challenge you find this quality of fish eating dries consistently anywhere. Clear water and structure, the spring doesn’t have structure the way the fall does…these are edges to focus your nymphing, dry fly or streamer approach. What creates the structure in fall? Two things 1. Clear, cool water on the entire system allow you to fish parts of the river that have steep banks, cutbanks and current that pushes to the bank. These areas don’t fish particularly well earlier in the season. 2. Weed beds…the dreaded weeds!! They act as edge structure and create cool(super productive) runs and seams. There is a tremendous lesson to be learned from the changing conditions and those who opt to work it out will be rewarded handsomely…others will just crab about weeds:) Trophy-class trout, these fish are available in very few fisheries but thrive in Grey Reef and Miracle Mile, they love an aggressively presented streamer. 100 miles of high performance North Platte River, that isn’t an exaggeration – From Miracle Mile to Glenrock there is 100 fishable Miles with Grey Reef (us) at ground zero. This creates an insane amount of angling opportunity and spreads the traffic out so much you may only see one or two boats the entire day. What is your reason for fishing Central Wyoming this time of year? Weather? Dry Fly? Monster trout? Sparse river traffic? Gobs of river to explore? Clear water?
October is where it is at…
